Individual Therapy

Although Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is the basis behind the delivery of treatment we do practice evidence based treatment approaches mixed with holistic, experiential therapies and the 12-step program.

We believe that the solution lies in the healing of the mind, together with the body and spirit. Each client is assigned an individual, primary counsellor. Then our multidisciplinary team works with the client to develop a personal recovery plan. This plan provides the treatment structure and goals needed for their stay at Irving House.

All information is delivered through many different venues including: self-awareness classes, process groups, psycho education groups, meditation, yoga, individual counselling, educational films, self-help groups, these venues are often referred to as modalities of treatment.

12 Step's

The 12 Step Program – Alcoholics Anonymous

The 12 step program is a group of people who suffer from the same disease of addiction and support each other, mostly through weekly support meetings. They have been fighting the battle of alcoholism for over 75 years and they are a great support for people who wish to participate in Alcoholics Anonymous and other groups. Although the 12 steps is not forced on anyone it is encouraged and talked about at the treatment centre. All we ask is that you be willing to listen and participate. Over the years there has been many other groups that have formed that are similar to the 12 steps and may have similar ideas. Getting continued support for your addiction is what is important, so go with what works for you.

Should you wish to attend AA or NA meetings in the area, here is a list of the meetings for your convenience.
